April Reading Selection

Our April selection for the book club will be, The Shack by William Paul Young. There were MANY of you who have expressed you would really like to have The Shack as a selection. And not only because you liked it so much but also for all the great discussion it will produce. If you have not heard of The Shack or are unaware of what it is about, here is the description from the back of the book cover:

Mackenzie Allen Philip's youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question: Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain? The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book! (end quote)

If you have read this book I hope you are like me and look forward to reading it again for all the great discussion we will have. If you have not read it I encourage you to read along with us. Don't forget you can always have discussion about the book or post your thoughts on our blog throughout the month. If you need help with this, please let me know and I will get it on there for you.

Now a bit of warning is in order for this book because there is much controversy surrounding it and it's mixed theology. We must remember that it is a fictional novel that is merely a source of entertainment that has been able to impact many lives with some of it's themes. In no way is this book completely factual or a clear representation of the Word of God. Please keep this in mind as you read and recommend it to others.

If you are interested in a Pre-order please contact Kathy. I'm sure in the next couple of days she will be e-mailing you with the information for a possible pre-order. I know there are many people who already have this book so an online order may not be necessary. I know books-a-million and the library have several copies of the book available as well. Sorry the pre-order is late! My fault!

I apologize that this is shorter notice than usually is given on a book selection but some other ideas kinda fell through at the last minute. But also remember that the April meeting will be pushed back till May 2nd so we have an extra week. On a side note, The $5.00 Christian book store located in the Outlet mall is open again. Great store with lots of great finds! I look forward to seeing you this upcoming Saturday, March 28th. If you have any questions or need anything please let me know. Have a great week!
